The problem

What holds an online store back

An online store looks like a catalog and a checkout. The work is in everything around them: how a price is calculated for a trade customer, which warehouse an order ships from, what tax applies in another country, what happens to stock when two people buy the last item, and how an order reaches your accounts without retyping.

So the first conversation is about operations, not themes. What do you sell and how is it delivered? How many products and variants, how many orders on a busy day, which systems already hold stock and prices? With those answers the platform choice is usually clear. Many stores belong on WooCommerce. Some need custom commerce on Laravel. A few should stay on the hosted platform they have, and we will say so.

  • The platform dictates the pricing model

You want customer-specific prices, quantity breaks, quote requests or a build-your-own bundle. The hosted store handles one price per product, and each workaround is another paid app with its own bugs.

  • Stock and orders are typed in twice

Orders are copied by hand into the ERP or accounting package, and stock levels are updated from a spreadsheet each morning. Oversells and late invoices follow every busy weekend.

  • Pages slow down as the catalog grows

Category pages with filters take seconds to load, the cart lags on mobile and checkout times out during a campaign. Paid traffic arrives and leaves before the product image appears.

  • A platform move feels too risky

The current store holds years of customers, orders, reviews and search rankings. Nobody wants to be the person who lost the order history or the traffic, so the move is postponed again.

What we do

Parts of a store we design and build

A store is a chain that runs from the product page to a delivered parcel and a booked invoice. We build each link and the connections between them.

Catalog and pricing

Products, variants, bundles and downloads structured for the way customers search, with price lists, tiered and customer-group pricing, coupons and scheduled sales.

Checkout and payment methods

A short checkout with cards, wallets and local methods through gateways such as Stripe, PayPal or Razorpay, including refunds, partial refunds and saved cards for repeat buyers.

Delivery and tax rules

Zones, carrier rates, pickup and delivery slots, label printing and tracking emails, with tax rules per region set up alongside your accountant and tested with sample orders.

Inventory and ERP sync

Stock, prices, orders and customers exchanged with your ERP, warehouse or accounting system through queued jobs and webhooks, with a log that shows what was sent and what failed.

Performance at peak

Page caching that respects carts and logged-in prices, lean product queries, image delivery through a CDN and a load test before your biggest campaign of the year.

Subscriptions and digital delivery

Recurring orders with renewal, pause and skip, license keys and protected downloads, and clear handling of failed renewals so revenue does not leak quietly.

Typical projects

Stores we typically deliver

01

A direct-to-consumer brand store

A fast storefront with rich product pages, reviews, wallets at checkout, abandoned-cart emails and analytics events wired up, ready for paid campaigns from launch day.

02

A B2B ordering portal

Login-only catalogs, customer-specific price lists, quick reorder, purchase orders and credit terms, with orders posted straight into the ERP that already runs the warehouse.

03

A digital products or software store

Instant delivery of files and license keys, version updates for existing buyers, tax handling for digital goods and renewals for annual licenses.

04

A subscription box or replenishment store

Plans with flexible intervals, a customer area to skip, swap or pause, renewal reminders, failed-payment retries and batch fulfillment lists for each shipping cycle.

In depth

Picking a commerce platform and planning version one

Where hosted, WooCommerce and custom each fit

A hosted store platform is the right call for a standard catalog and a small team. Hosting, security patches and checkout are handled for you, and you pay monthly. It starts to pinch when you need unusual pricing, your own checkout logic or deep integration with internal systems. WooCommerce gives you an open codebase, full control of your data and a very large extension market on top of WordPress, which also makes content and SEO pages easy. In exchange you take on hosting, updates and plugin discipline. Custom commerce on Laravel is for stores whose rules are the business: configurators, contract pricing per customer, multi-warehouse allocation, rental or made-to-order flows. Nothing is in your way, and nothing comes free.

The questions that settle it

We ask about five things. Catalog size and how often it changes. Pricing rules, including who sees which price. Order volume at peak, not on average. The systems that must stay in sync. And who will run the store day to day. A marketing team that edits pages daily leans toward WooCommerce. An operations team that lives in an ERP and treats the storefront as one more sales channel often leans toward a custom build.

Digital and subscription stores have their own traps

Downloads and license keys need no shipping, but they bring tax rules for digital goods and fraud patterns of their own. For simple software or file sales we sometimes recommend Easy Digital Downloads over a full store. Subscriptions add a second system to get right: renewals, card expiry, proration when a plan changes and what the customer may change alone. Decide those rules on paper first.

Moving from another platform

Products, customers, orders, reviews and URLs can all move. Passwords often cannot, so we plan a reset flow that does not alarm customers. Every old URL gets a redirect, checked against a crawl of the live site. The import is rehearsed on a copy, totals are compared with the source, and a final top-up import runs at switch-over so no order placed during the move is lost.

What version one needs

Launch with the catalog, one payment gateway that suits your main market, real shipping and tax rules, order emails, and the one integration that removes manual retyping. Loyalty points, a mobile app and marketplace feeds can follow once orders flow. Agree a speed budget for product, category and checkout pages before design is approved, because keeping a page fast costs less than rescuing a slow one. A store that takes money correctly on day one beats a long feature list.

Process

How a store gets from brief to first order

  1. 1

    Operations review

We walk through how an order is priced, paid, picked, shipped, returned and booked today, and list the systems involved. This call is free.

  2. 2

    Platform and scope

You get a recommendation between hosted, WooCommerce and custom, a list of integrations, and a quote with milestones for version one.

  3. 3

    Design and build

Storefront design, catalog import, checkout, shipping and tax rules built on staging, with your team placing test orders as each part lands.

  4. 4

    Integration and rehearsal

ERP, accounting and email connections are tested with real records. For migrations we run the full import twice and compare totals.

  5. 5

    Launch and first orders

We switch over at a quiet hour, watch the first live payments and sync jobs, and fix issues quickly. Maintenance is available afterward.

FAQ

What store owners ask before they start

Is WooCommerce enough for our store, or do we need a custom build?
WooCommerce is enough for most stores, including large catalogs, if hosting and plugins are chosen with care. A custom build earns its cost when pricing, product configuration or fulfillment rules are too specific to fit extensions without heavy patching. We tell you which side you are on after the operations review.
Can you move our store from Shopify, Magento or another platform?
Yes. We migrate products, variants, customers, orders, reviews, coupons and content, and map every old URL to its new address. The import is rehearsed on a copy and reconciled against the source before launch. Customer passwords usually need a reset, which we handle with a clear email flow.
How do you connect the store to our ERP or accounting software?
Through the system API where it has one, or scheduled file exchange where it does not. Orders, stock, prices and customers move through queued jobs with retries and a visible log, so a failed sync is noticed and replayed instead of silently lost.
Who handles tax and compliance settings?
You and your accountant decide the rules, and we implement and test them. That covers tax classes, regional rates or a tax calculation service, invoices and the reports your accountant asks for. We do not give tax advice.
Do we have to rebuild a slow store?
Usually not. Most slow stores improve with caching that suits carts, fewer and better plugins, tuned queries and proper image delivery. We start with measurements and only suggest a rebuild when the structure itself is the limit.
Can you build a mobile app for the store later?
Yes. Once the store exposes a clean API, a shopping app can share its catalog, cart, customers and orders. Our mobile app development team builds these, usually in Flutter, and we advise waiting until repeat purchases justify the extra channel.
What drives the cost of an eCommerce build?
The number of integrations, the complexity of pricing and shipping rules, how much data is migrated and how much custom design you want. Catalog size matters less than people expect. You receive a fixed scope with milestones after a free consultation.
