How WP Courseware fits into a larger site
A course engine, not a site builder
WP Courseware organizes content as courses, modules and units. Units are ordinary WordPress content you write in the editor, while enrollment, progress and quiz results sit in database tables that belong to the plugin. Everything else, such as design, sales pages, logins and billing, is left to your theme and other plugins. That keeps the plugin light and means a WP Courseware project is mostly integration work. Before estimating we draw the whole chain: what is sold, which plugin records the sale, what it tells WP Courseware, and what the learner sees next.
The enrollment handshake
Integrations with membership and store plugins work by association: this level or product grants these courses. The standard link fires when access is granted. Real businesses also need the reverse and the in-between: a failed renewal, a paused subscription, a downgrade that should keep some courses and drop others, a refund after half the units are complete. We write those rules into a small plugin that listens to the membership or order events and adjusts enrollment, and we log every change so support can explain why someone lost access. If you are still choosing the membership side, see our WordPress membership sites page.
Quizzes, surveys and what counts as passing
The plugin separates quizzes that block progress until passed from quizzes that only record a score, and it supports surveys. Most custom requests are about policy. How many retakes, with what delay? Does an essay answer hold the learner until an instructor grades it? Should questions be drawn at random from a pool per topic? We implement the policy with the hooks the plugin provides where they exist, and add our own tables only when the data, such as scores per section, has no home in the standard schema.
Certificates that can be verified
A PDF is easy to produce and easy to fake. For regulated or paid credentials we add a unique code to each certificate, store the issue record, and publish a lookup page where an employer can confirm it. Expiry dates and renewal reminders run from the same record.
When moving on is the right call
Some sites need features that are core to other platforms: group management, instructor marketplaces, a course player with social features. Building all of that around WP Courseware costs more than migrating. We say so when we see it, and our WordPress LMS comparison lays out the alternatives. A migration script carries structure, grades and completion dates across and is rehearsed on a copy before the switch.
